Job Full Description

The Materials Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of material planning and inventory control to ensure that the organization has the necessary materials available for production while optimizing inventory costs and minimizing waste. This role involves collaborating with various departments, including production, purchasing, and logistics, to support operational efficiency and meet production schedules.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
Inventory Management: Develop and implement inventory management strategies, including forecasting, ordering, and replenishment of materials to maintain optimal stock levels. 
Procurement: Coordinate with suppliers to negotiate contracts and purchase materials based on production requirements and budgets. Ensure timely delivery of materials to minimize disruptions. 
Planning and Scheduling: Collaborate with production and operations teams to create material requirements plans (MRP) that align with production schedules and customer demand. 
Supplier Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure reliability, quality, and cost-effectiveness of materials. 
Quality Control: Monitor and assess the quality of materials received and address any discrepancies or issues with suppliers. 
Budget Management: Manage budgets related to materials procurement and inventory control, analyzing costs and identifying savings opportunities. 
Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of materials handlers and inventory specialists, promoting training and development to enhance team performance. 
Reporting and Analysis: Generate reports on material usage, inventory levels, and supplier performance to inform decision-making and improve operational efficiency. 
Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and company policies related to material handling and procurement.
 
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelors degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, or relevant certifications (e.g., APICS, CPIM) is a plus. 
Experience: Proven experience in materials management, inventory control, or supply chain logistics, typically 5+ years in a similar role.
 
Skills: 
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent negotiation and communication abilities
Proficiency in inventory management software and Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to lead teams and manage cross-functional projects
 
Knowledge: Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and just-in-time (JIT) inventory practices is advantageous.
