Rocky opened the Athens Express office in June of 2020 to further his goal of providing the highest quality staffing services in East Texas — a commitment that began with the opening of the Tyler Express office in November 1995. Since Athens joined as a branch, both offices have shared prestigious recognitions, including Circle of Excellence status each year since 1998. Since 2006, Tyler/Athens has been included in the Chairman's Club, recognizing the top 10 offices out of over 900 offices in the United States, Canada, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. Locally, the Athens office has quickly built a strong reputation, winning the Reader's Choice award for Best Staffing Service in both 2023 and 2024 and receiving the Visionary Award from the Chamber in 2023.
Rocky has been invested in the community for many years. Rocky graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. He started out working for Squyres, Johnson, Squyres & Co., becoming a Senior Accountant before leaving to go to work for one of their clients, East Texas Medical Center (ETMC), now UT Health East Texas. He served as Corporate Controller, with accounting responsibilities for most of the entities in the multi-hospital chain. He left ETMC to open the Tyler franchise of Express in 1995.
Gill has served on the boards of various organizations in East Texas including Selah Life Choices, The Fostering Collective, Better Business Bureau, ETMC Regional Healthcare System, ETMC Foundation, CityServe East Texas, Green Acres Foundation, Serving Orphans Worldwide, Rose City Kiwanis, Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce, Tyler YMCA, Junior Achievement, Workforce Solutions East Texas, Christian Women’s Job Corp and United Way of Tyler/Smith County.
Rocky has been married to Carrie since 1990 and they have two daughters, Hannah (married to Josh Trammel) and Campbell. The Gills are, more importantly, grandparents to three granddaughters. The entire family lives in Tyler.
Gill is passionate about making a difference in people's lives. It is this passion that fuels his work with Express. “Most people don’t call on Express because they want to; they have a need – either for a person to work in their business or a job! Because we meet up with people who are desperate for help, we view our work from the standpoint of a servant. We want to make things better for our clients and associates. Service is our middle name!”
Rocky attributes his office’s success to the team that works at this office. His goal has always been to attract the brightest and best people who are willing to become employment professionals and have a heart to serve the people who count on Express to help them. Since it started in 1995, Express Tyler has welcomed well over 100,000 job seekers into their offices and placed over 40,000 people in jobs. Express offers commercial/industrial, administrative, and professional associates. They also offer HR resources, custom training services, and temporary or permanent assignment solutions.
