Job Full Description

Prepress Technician

Key Responsibilities:

  • File Preparation & Quality Control:

    • Review and process customer-provided files (PDF, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.) for print readiness.
    • Ensure files meet company standards, including resolution, bleed, margins, color profiles, and fonts.
    • Perform preflight checks to identify and correct issues affecting print quality or production timelines.

  • Mac File Production:

    • Operate in a Mac-based environment to process and manipulate files using Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
    • Adjust files for digital printing to ensure proper sizing, color-correction, and optimization for output.

  • Color Management & Proofing:

    • Utilize color management tools to ensure accuracy across various media and digital presses.
    • Generate and review digital proofs with clients to verify alignment with their expectations before final printing.

  • File Archiving & Documentation:

    • Maintain accurate records of files and revisions, archiving all artwork and proofs appropriately.
    • Implement proper file handling and backup protocols to ensure the integrity and accessibility of all production files.

  • Collaboration with Production Team:

    • Communicate effectively with the production team to facilitate smooth file transfers and timely production schedules.
    • Address any technical issues related to file preparation or production processes.

Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience:

    • 2+ years of experience in a prepress or digital printing environment, with a focus on Mac-based systems.
    • Strong familiarity with digital printing processes, color management, and file preparation.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).
    • Familiarity with preflight software (e.g., Enfocus PitStop Pro, Adobe Acrobat).
    • Knowledge of digital printing workflows and file formats (PDF, TIFF, EPS, JPG, etc.).
    • Experience with color calibration and digital proofing systems.

  • Soft Skills:

    • Strong attention to detail and excellent problem-solving abilities.
    • Ability to thrive under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    • Outstanding communication skills for effective collaboration with internal teams and clients.

  • Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience with large-format printing, wide-format printing, or similar technologies is a plus.
    • Knowledge of variable data printing (VDP) or personalized print jobs.
