We are seeking a skilled and dynamic Machine Shop Manager with expertise in CNC programming to oversee our precision machining operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing day-to-day shop activities, supervising a team of machinists and operators, and ensuring the efficient and high-quality production of parts. Additionally, this role requires advanced CNC programming skills to optimize machine performance, improve processes, and troubleshoot any production issues.

Key Responsibilities:

Management & Leadership:

  • Lead and manage the daily operations of the machine shop, including scheduling, resource allocation, and workflow optimization.
  • Supervise, mentor, and train a team of CNC machinists, operators, and other shop personnel, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and quality.
  • Ensure all machine shop activities are compliant with company policies, industry standards, and safety regulations.
  • Provide hands-on support and guidance for complex machining tasks, resolving technical challenges as they arise.

CNC Programming & Machine Operation:

  • Develop, modify, and optimize CNC programs for all types of CNC machinery (mills, lathes, grinders, etc.) using programming software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360, SolidWorks).
  • Review engineering drawings and specifications to create precise programs for complex parts, ensuring they meet quality, tolerance, and material requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize existing CNC programs for better efficiency, cost savings, and quality improvements.
  • Conduct test runs to ensure programs and machines are functioning correctly, adjusting programs and setups as needed.

Production & Quality Control:

  • Oversee the setup, calibration, and operation of CNC machines, ensuring proper tooling, feeds, and speeds are applied for each project.
  • Monitor machine performance and ensure all parts are produced according to specifications and within required tolerances.
  • Collaborate with the quality control team to conduct inspections, address quality issues, and implement corrective actions when needed.
  • Implement preventive maintenance schedules for CNC machines and other shop equipment to ensure maximum uptime and longevity.

Process Improvement & Innovation:

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, machine upgrades, and automation to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends, technologies, and best practices in CNC machining and programming.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and design teams to ensure manufacturability of new designs and improve existing processes.

Administrative & Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of production schedules, machine maintenance, and employee performance.
  • Prepare and analyze production reports, identifying areas for improvement and reporting on key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Develop and manage machine shop budgets, ensuring resources are used efficiently and cost-effectively.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree or technical certification in machining, manufacturing, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in CNC machining, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Skills:
    • Advanced proficiency in CNC programming (G-code, M-code, etc.) for a variety of machines, including mills, lathes, and multi-axis machines.
    • Strong knowledge of machining processes, materials, tooling, and fixturing.
    • Experience with CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360, SolidWorks) for CNC programming and part design.
    • Excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team effectively.
    • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot mechanical and programming issues.
    • Proficient in the use of measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, CMM, etc.) to ensure part quality.
