Job Title: Shipping Clerk
Location: Channelview, Texas
Reports to: Express Employment Professionals
A Shipping Clerk role involves preparing orders for shipment, handling and organizing inventory, coordinating with shipping carriers, and ensuring that all outgoing products meet quality and safety standards required for the oil and gas industry.
- Order Processing & Shipping Preparation:
- Prepare and verify outgoing shipments of metal parts, equipment, and materials in accordance with customer orders or internal work orders.
- Ensure that orders are complete and accurate, matching products with the correct shipping documentation (e.g., packing slips, bills of lading, shipping labels).
- Accurately label and package materials for shipment, ensuring all safety, regulatory, and labeling requirements are met.
- Inventory Management:
- Assist with organizing and maintaining inventory within the metal shop or warehouse to ensure items are easily accessible for shipping.
- Record and track materials and products as they are shipped, and update inventory management systems as needed.
- Collaborate with inventory control and production teams to ensure that stock levels are properly maintained.
- Shipping & Logistics Coordination:
- Coordinate with external shipping carriers, freight companies, and logistics teams to schedule deliveries and pick-ups.
- Track outgoing shipments to ensure timely delivery and resolve any issues related to delays or misdirected shipments.
- Manage special handling requirements for sensitive or hazardous materials, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Follow all company safety protocols and industry standards when handling materials, including the proper use of forklifts, cranes, or other material handling equipment.
- Ensure that safety guidelines and OSHA standards are adhered to in all shipping and warehouse activities.
- Ensure that hazardous materials, if applicable, are properly labeled and packaged for shipment according to regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, DOT, and environmental regulations).
- Documentation & Record-Keeping:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for all incoming and outgoing shipments, including shipping logs, inventory records, and invoices.
- Prepare and verify shipping documentation (e.g., packing lists, shipping manifests, export forms) and ensure all records are filed properly for future reference or audits.
- Communicate shipping status and order fulfillment details to internal teams, including production, procurement, and sales.
- Material Handling:
- Operate material handling equipment, such as forklifts, pallet jacks, or cranes, to safely move materials and products throughout the shop or warehouse.
- Ensure proper storage and organization of metal products and materials to avoid damage and improve accessibility for shipping.
- Assist in the loading and unloading of goods from trucks or shipping containers and ensure that the materials are safely stored or prepared for shipment.
- Customer Service & Communication:
- Provide excellent customer service by responding to inquiries related to shipment status, product availability, and shipping details.
- Coordinate with customers and vendors to ensure timely delivery and resolve any shipping discrepancies or issues.
- Notify management of any delays, damages, or discrepancies in shipping to ensure timely resolution.
- Cleaning & Organizing:
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area to promote efficiency and prevent accidents or injuries.
- Ensure the proper disposal of waste, scrap metal, and packaging materials according to company guidelines and environmental regulations.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience: Previous experience in shipping, receiving, or warehouse roles, ideally within a manufacturing, metalworking, or oil and gas environment.
- Technical Skills: Familiarity with inventory management systems and shipping software. Ability to operate material handling equipment (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks, cranes).
- Attention to Detail: Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in shipping documentation, inventory tracking, and packaging requirements.
- Safety Awareness: Knowledge of safety standards and regulations, particularly those related to industrial operations, OSHA guidelines, and hazardous material handling.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with team members, vendors, and customers effectively.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift and move heavy items, stand for long periods, and operate warehouse equipment.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to identify shipping errors, resolve discrepancies, and ensure that products reach customers in a timely and accurate manner.
Education & Experience:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required; further certifications in logistics, inventory management, or warehouse operations are a plus.
- Experience: 2+ years of experience in a shipping, receiving, or warehouse role, preferably within an industrial or manufacturing setting (oil and gas or metalworking preferred).
