Job Full Description

Schedule: Monday-Thursday 7:30 am - 5:30 pm

Location: Waco, TX

 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in maintaining dwelling units and grounds at the Authority's housing developments and main office.
  • Perform manual labor tasks including cleaning, repairing, and preparing vacant units for new residents.
  • Clean appliances, restrooms, and common areas; repair plumbing, patch walls, paint, and wax floors.
  • Pick up trash from yards, around dumpsters, and throughout the property grounds.
  • Clean housing management offices and assist in furniture rearrangement for special meetings and events.
  • Make minor repairs in vacant units, such as changing light fixtures.
  • Transport household appliances for repair and conduct inventory checks.
  • Dispose of trash and discarded items, and check smoke alarms in units and offices.
  • Assist in unloading trash trailers, appliances, and supplies.
  • Help with carpentry work and change oil in maintenance equipment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One year of experience in building maintenance or vocational training in carpentry, plumbing, electrical repairs, or related fields preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of techniques, materials, and equipment used in plumbing, carpentry, and electrical repairs.
  • Proficiency in using hand and power tools.
  • Ability to read and understand repair manuals and instructions on cleaning agents.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with residents and other employees.
  • Valid Texas driver's license and eligibility for coverage under Authority fleet auto insurance.

Physical Demands:

  • Requires the use of hand and power tools, often involving physical activity such as prolonged standing, walking, reaching, bending, crouching, and lifting objects up to 25 pounds or more.
  • Must have the strength and dexterity to manipulate tools like saws, sanders, and jointers.

Work Environment:

  • Works both indoors and outdoors, subject to varying weather conditions.
  • Potential exposure to hazards such as electrical shocks, heights, dangerous chemicals, and skin irritants (e.g., cleaning solutions, solvents).
  • Must use safety equipment, such as goggles, gloves, and safety boots.
