Job Full Description
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Steel Machine Operator to join our fabrication team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience operating a variety of steel fabrication machinery, including CNC machines, plasma cutters, shears, saws, and punch presses. This role is vital in producing high-quality steel components and ensuring they meet precise specifications. The Steel Machine Operator will be expected to handle materials, interpret technical drawings, and perform basic welding and assembly as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Machine Operation: Operate CNC machines, plasma cutters, shears, saws, punch presses, and other fabrication equipment to cut, shape, and drill steel components accurately and efficiently. Set up and adjust machine settings, tooling, and materials to ensure proper operation.
- Material Handling: Load, unload, and position steel beams, plates, and other materials using overhead cranes, forklifts, or manual techniques. Ensure materials are safely handled and correctly positioned for processing.
- Blueprint Reading: Interpret and follow technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to fabricate steel components according to precise measurements and standards. Communicate any discrepancies or issues with blueprints to the supervisor or engineering team.
- Welding & Assembly: Perform basic welding (MIG, TIG, or Stick) as needed for steel components. Assemble steel parts by bolting, fitting, or welding them together, ensuring structural integrity and accuracy.
- Quality Control: Inspect finished products for defects, adherence to specifications, and structural integrity. Use precision measuring tools such as calipers, tape measures, and micrometers to verify dimensions and ensure quality. Report any discrepancies or issues to the supervisor for corrective action.
- Safety Compliance: Follow all workplace safety regulations and guidelines. Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed boots. Ensure the safe operation of all machinery and report any unsafe conditions or practices.
- Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and cleaning on machines and tools to ensure optimal performance. Report any machine malfunctions, tool wear, or required repairs to the maintenance team for prompt resolution.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience in steel fabrication, machine operation, or a related field.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
- Proficiency in using measuring tools such as calipers, tape measures, micrometers, and protractors.
- Basic knowledge of welding techniques, including MIG, TIG, or Stick welding.
- Strong attention to detail and quality control standards.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy materials as needed.
