Machinist – Conventional & Manual Lathes and Mills

Skilled Machinist needed for local shop. This position requires experience operating manual and conventional lathes and mills to fabricate and repair precision components for hydraulic and mechanical systems. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and committed to producing high-quality work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up and operate manual lathes and mills to machine parts to exact specifications.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics to determine machining requirements.
  • Perform precision measurements using micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators.
  • Machine, modify, and repair parts for hydraulic cylinders, pumps, and other mechanical components.
  • Select the appropriate tools, cutting speeds, and feeds for various materials.
  • Inspect finished parts to ensure they meet quality control standards.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot machines to ensure optimal performance.
  • Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized workspace.
  • Work closely with engineers and other team members to ensure accurate machining and efficient workflow.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Machinist, preferably in a hydraulics or industrial machine shop setting.
  • Strong knowledge of manual lathes, mills, cutting tools, and machining techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
  • Experience machining hydraulic components is a plus.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring tools and quality inspection methods.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to lift moderate weights and stand for extended periods.
  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or apprenticeship is preferred.

Work Environment:

  • Industrial/manufacturing setting with exposure to metalworking tools, lubricants, and machine noise.
  • PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) required per safety standards.
