Job Title: Cost Accountant
Location: Tukwila, WA
Employment Type: Full-Time
Reports to: Controller
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm
Pay: 75k – 85k DOE
Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Cost Accountant to conduct advanced cost accounting analyses and provide valuable financial insights to support our business operations. This role is crucial in comparing estimated costs to actual costs, preparing budget reports, and collaborating with various teams, including accounting, operations, and sales. This position requires a detailed-oriented professional with a strong analytical mind, expert Excel skills, and proficiency in financial modeling to ensure financial accuracy and help guide strategic decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct cost variance analysis, comparing actual costs to standard system costs for materials and labor.
- Review work order transactions to identify and resolve costing discrepancies, performing root cause analysis.
- Collaborate with operations on ad hoc analyses for special projects.
- Support month-end and year-end inventory processes, ensuring inventory balance accuracy at the item and transaction levels.
- Analyze and report actual job profit margins, maintaining the Work-in-Process (WIP) ledger.
- Prepare month-end and year-end closings, including journal entries and reconciliations, ensuring accurate inventory-to-General Ledger (GL) reconciliation.
- Provide product costing insights for pricing and strategic business decisions.
- Establish and track project budgets, reconciling contracts and purchase orders for accurate budget forecasting.
- Regularly track project completion progress, reporting on actual and forecast costs, cash flow, and variances.
- Conduct weekly profitability reviews and reconciliations, analyzing variances for specific jobs.
- Participate in physical inventories, cycle counts, and stock reconciliations across branches.
- Calculate and review reserve for slow-moving or obsolete inventory items.
- Coordinate with BVS branches to assess stock requirements, reducing unnecessary purchasing.
- Support PSV certification inventory processes and assist with annual audits.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in cost accounting, ideally in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Solid understanding of GAAP and proven knowledge of accounting principles, standards, laws, and regulations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to handle large datasets and meet tight financial deadlines.
- Proficiency with financial modeling and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
