Benefit Assistant Job Highlights:

Schedule: Part-time, 1st shift, hours between 8am-4:30pm Monday-Friday, 15-18 hrs. per week

Pay: $18-20 per hour, depending on experience

Temporary position through end of January 2025

Benefit Assistant Job Summary:

The Benefit Assistant supports the Benefits Manager by performing a variety of administrative, customer service, and operational tasks to ensure the smooth functioning of the benefits department. This position serves as the primary point of contact for employees and employers seeking assistance with benefits information, enrollment, and issue resolution. The role also involves managing benefits data, reconciling invoices, and maintaining compliance with relevant regulations. Additionally, this position provides backup support to other Human Resources functions when needed.

Benefit Assistant Job Duties:

  • Respond to benefit-related inquiries via phone, email, or in person, ensuring accurate and timely resolution or escalation of the appropriate party.
  • Act as a liaison between the organization and benefits providers to address claims, billing, and enrollment issues effectively.
  • Guide new hires through the benefits enrollment process, including conducting orientations, explaining plan options, and assisting with paperwork. Update enrollment data in payroll systems and ensure compliance with COBRA regulations.
  • Reconcile monthly benefits invoices for accuracy and resolve discrepancies with carriers. Prepare payments for processing and maintain organized records of transactions.
  • Input and update benefits-related information in payroll and HR systems, ensuring consistency and accuracy. Manage changes related to new hires, terminations and open enrollment
  • Assist in planning and promoting wellness initiatives, such as flu clinics, health screenings, and educational workshops. Maintain communications to keep employees informed of available resources.
  • Oversee the unemployment compensation program, ensuring payments are tracked and records are maintained. Provide reports as needed.
  • Created and update standard operating procedures, prepare reports, and assist with other HR tasks as assigned. Act as a backup to the Benefits Manager for critical duties.

Benefit Assistant Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Associate degree in business, accounting, or a related field is preferred
  • 2-4 years of administrative experience, preferably in benefits administration or similar field
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Specific experience working with and providing health insurance is preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel
