JOB & JOB PURPOSE:
Transit Mechanic, to help transit operations keep equipment maintained and safe.
The working hours for this position are 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday – Friday
Pre-employment drug screening and review of motor vehicle record history are required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform basic to intermediate vehicle/equipment maintenance and repairs to fleet. Diagnose, maintain, repair, and adjust buses as necessary to keep fleet in optimum and safe condition.
- Perform and complete annual vehicle inspections, to also include all occupant safety and emergency systems. Adjust as needed.
- Perform timely routine vehicle preventive maintenance program in accordance with DOT and FTA regulations to ensure safe operating condition of entire fleet.
- Inspects vehicle components, parts, and accessories to ensure safe operation that is compliant with all DOT, FTA, and ADA regulations. General shop cleaning and organizational duties, keeping fluid cabinets stocked and organized. Disposing of used fluids properly and as necessary.
- Operates/Maintains tools, equipment, and shop area for the purpose of ensuring availability and safety.
- Prepares written materials (repair and maintenance logs, parts lists) for supervisor to ensure all data is entered into the work order management system.
- Responds to road calls as necessary. Arrange for towing, replacement, or field repairs if necessary.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the Shop Manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Vocational School, On-the Job Experience, or associate''s degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience: Two years automotive, equipment, or medium/heavy trucks mechanic experience or equivalent accredited mechanic trade school certificate.
Required licensure, certification, registration, or other requirements:
- Must be able to pass all drug and/or alcohol screening required by the client and applicable DOT Regulations.
- Valid driver''s license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) that is compliant with the client''s policies
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- More than one year of medium/heavy duty truck or shuttle bus mechanic experience.
- Relevant ASE certifications such as medium/heavy truck and/or shuttle bus.
- Possession of Refrigeration Recovery/Containment Certificate Type II.
- Valid Class B Commercial Driver''s License with Air Brakes and passenger endorsement and or the ability to obtain CDL license within one year of employment.
- Solid knowledge of occupational hazards and safety rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and/or verbal communication skills.
- Ability to obtain First Aid/CPR certification within 3 months of employment.
- General knowledge of shop maintenance policies and procedures.
