Preparing for Your Job Interview You have a job interview. Congratulations! But everyone knows that the days leading up to an interview can be stressful. You may feel as though there are things you can do to increase your chances while you're burning off that nervous energy.

The good news is, there are some things you can do to prepare for your upcoming interview. We've pulled a few together for you.

    Dress the Part

Dressing for an interview can be tricky. Although you'll generally dress more formally for the interview than the job itself, it's important to pay attention to the culture of the organization before choosing an outfit.

To play it safe , dress about one level above what people working there wear each day. Go through the company's website and social media pages to see what people are wearing in photos.

    Study the Company

When you walk into the interview, it's best to know as much as possible about the company. That includes its:

    • Mission
    • History
    • Target audience
    • Future goals and plans

Although you can get a great deal of information from its website and social media pages, this is where you may want to start looking up individuals. The leadership team, in particular, may have information on their own social media profiles, especially LinkedIn, to give you a glimpse into what the company is all about.

    Know the Interviewer

You may have no clue who will be conducting the interview. It could be an HR person, or you could be seated across from the person who will be your direct supervisor.

If you know the person who will interview you, research that person. Whether you do or not, though, you should at least know some things about management, particularly the person heading up the team you will be on, if hired.

    Rehearse Interview Responses

It's never been easier to predict the questions you'll be asked. In fact, you can even look up common interview questions specific to various employers on Glassdoor. If your potential employer doesn't have questions listed, look up competitors for a general idea of questions specific to that industry.

While you're preparing, research common interview questions and recommended answers . Practice answering various questions in the mirror. You're likely to be asked about your own work history, so practice responding to that question, as well.
