    It is no secret the world of business has continued to become more globalized, and cultures have, and will continue to intersect at a greater level. Therefore, becoming more culturally competent as individuals and organizations will be a competitive advantage. Cultural misunderstandings can create many challenges in creating productive client relationships, communication, and cross-cultural employee retention.

    Course Breakdown:

    Understanding my own culture. 

    Participants will dissect their own cultural identity, values, and beliefs becoming more self-aware setting the stage to better compare and contrast to other cultures. Participants will be exposed to some foundational models to think about culture in more wholistic and thoughtful ways.  

    Understanding other cultures. 

    With better self-awareness participants will dive into 10 different cultural scales including communication, trust, giving feedback, Individualism, decision making, leadership, concept of time, persuading, and comfort with ambiguity

    Moving towards cultural competency. 

    Bringing together participants will utilize a model to recognize, appreciate, and adapt to the differences to communicate more effectively, build better relationships, and be overall more culturally competent. The goal will be for participants to separate observation of behavior from interpretation. Armed with cultural competence participants will have the ability to navigate a cross-cultural world effectively.

    • How to adapt - each participant will walk away with practical steps to increase their cultural competency and engage in cross-cultural communication and relationship building.

    Ryan Williams

    Leadership & Team Development Specialist

    Ryan Williams serves as a Training Specialist at Express Employment Professionals of Grand Rapids. He is a certified Everything DiSC facilitator and has his master's in organizational leadership from Cornerstone University. Ryan brings a wide variety of cross cultural leadership experience, having worked previously in Hong Kong and with Native American populations in Alaska. Most recently, Ryan has worked in higher education, developing and implementing training curriculum and programs across the organization.

     

    Ryan's passion and focus is for everyone to love the place they work. People who love their workplace, work harder and perform better. He brings a unique perspective in helping organizations evaluate their organizational culture, understand cross cultural dynamics, and implement strategies to create better leaders.
