Navigating the Interview Process with Confidence
Ottawa, IL - March 03, 2023
Job hunting can be a stressful experience, but having strong
interviewing skills and knowledge of the process can make things easier.
Knowing what to expect from an interview gives you a better chance of putting
your best foot forward and getting the job you want. In this blog, a professional
employment company will focus on how to handle each step in the interview
process, from the first phone call to offer negotiation.
Phone Call
Screening Interviews
The first step of many interviews are phone
screenings. Employers use this step to get an initial
sense of who you are and what kind of candidate you may be.
During the call, they’ll ask questions about your
qualifications and experience and why you want to work for them. It’s important
to do your research ahead of time so that you can answer these questions
confidently and accurately.
Prepare some questions beforehand that show your interest in
the company or position so that employers know you have done your homework.
Interviews
With Managers
If you make it past the phone call stage, chances are there
will be an in-person meeting with either a manager or someone from Human
Resources.
During this phase, employers will dive deeper into your
background and qualifications—they may even ask behavioral questions or have you complete simulations related to the job position.
Make sure to stay organized during this part by taking notes about what each
person says so that you can refer back later if
needed. Be sure to ask thoughtful questions about the role and company at this
stage as well!
Interviews
With Peers/Team Members
Sometimes companies like to see how potential candidates
interact with their team members during an interview process—it helps them get
a better understanding of how well you’ll fit in with their existing employees
and culture. If possible, try and learn more about those team members
beforehand so that you can tailor your answers accordingly!
Job Offers/Negotiations
If all goes well throughout the process, then employers will
typically extend an offer for employment. At this point, both parties involved
(you included!) need to take some time to discuss salary expectations before signing
any contracts or agreements.
Research similar positions in your area beforehand so that
you know what kind of salary range is reasonable for your field; this way, if
employers bring up compensation negotiations during these discussions, then at
least both parties will start on equal footing when it comes time for
negotiating terms!
Navigating through the interview process doesn't have to be
intimidating or overwhelming—with proper preparation and research beforehand,
anyone searching for career
opportunities should be able to ace each stage of the interviewing process
with confidence!
