First impressions are everything when it comes to an interview. Here are five quick tips to help you succeed on the big day.

    Dress For Success

Dress appropriately for the interview based on the job and industry. We recommend that wherever you are applying, dress to fit their dress code. If you have an interview for a labour or industrial role, you don’t need to wear a full suit, but you may choose to for a more professional role. Look clean, neat and well-groomed – don’t come in with bed head and get rid of the dog fur on your clothes.

    Come Prepared

Come prepared for the interview. Be prepared to talk about your past work experience and practice for the type of interview you will be doing – with behavioural or technical questions. Show your interest by researching the company before the interview and be sure to ask questions to clarify what is required to be successful in the role.

    Arrive Early

Arrive 5-10 minutes early for the interview. Not only does this give you time to find parking and the interview room but is also shows your interviewers that you are keen. You can get a sense of what the workplace culture is like while waiting for the interview.

    Attitude is Everything

Greet everyone you meet politely and professionally, use positive language and don’t use foul language. Avoid making negative comments about previous employers. Present yourself as someone your interviewers could see themselves working with – open, collaborative, and respectful.

    Say Thank You

Thank your interviewers for their time and for the opportunity to meet with them. Follow up with a thank you email to also reiterate your interest in the position. Avoid sending multiple emails – one is plenty!
