Job Search in Lakewood, CO So, you're ready to start looking for a new job. Great! Whether you're unemployed and looking for work or you're simply ready to move on to a new opportunity, there are a few things you should avoid doing if you want to increase your chances of landing the job you want.

Here are the five biggest mistakes you can make when job hunting:

    1. Not knowing what you want

The first step in any job search is naming exactly what it is you're looking for. What kind of company do you want to work for? What type of position are you qualified for? What salary are you willing to accept?

If you don't take the time to figure out the answers to these questions, you'll likely end up applying for jobs that aren't a good fit-wasting your time and the employer's time in the process.

    2. Applying for every job you see

It can be tempting to apply for every single job that sounds remotely interesting but resist the urge! Applying for too many jobs at once will only serve to overwhelm you and make it difficult to keep track of each application.

Plus, if you're applying for jobs that aren't a good match for your skillset or interests, it will be difficult to sell yourself to the employer-decreasing your chances of being offered the position.

    3. Sending out generic resumes and cover letters

In today's competitive job market, it's more important than ever to tailor your resume and cover letter specifically to each position you apply for. This means taking the time to research each company and position and then highlighting the experiences and skills that make you the perfect fit for that role.

Sending out generic applications will only make employers think you haven't bothered to do your research-not an effective way to make a good first impression!

    4. Failing to network

Get in touch with people you know who work in your desired field or industry and see if they have any advice or recommendations for landing a job. You never know who might be able to put in a good word for you!

    5. Giving up too soon

Finding a new job can be a long and frustrating process-but it's important not to give up too soon. Just because you haven't landed your dream job after sending out a few resumes doesn't mean it will never happen. Stay positive and don't give up until you find the right opportunity for YOU!

By avoiding these mistakes, you'll increase your chances of finding the right job for you. If you need a little extra help, visit your local job center and take advantage of any resources they offer!
